Anamay Viswanathan, aged 13, has scooped the top prize at CookIt!, the national children’s cookery competition run by the Guild of Food Writers and supported by Gold Top milk. The Dulwich College pupil beat five other talented young cooks at the final Cook Off which took place in London on Thursday 10th June. The panel of expert judges, including TV chefs Stefan Gates and Valentine Warner, were blown away by the menu of Spice Roasted Lamb Chops served on a Sweet Potato Bubble and Squeak Cake followed by a Chocolate Basket Filled with Mint Cream and a Pistachio Tuille Basket Filled with Mango Cream.
Delighted with his success, Anamay said; “I had a great time cooking my recipes and it was a brilliant surprise to have won. I can’t wait to tell all my friends!”
The six finalists were selected from hundreds of entrants who were challenged to let their imagination run wild and “Create a dream meal for you and your friends”.
Anamay’s culinary talent has won him and his family a holiday at Boccadon Farm, a working Guernsey dairy farm in Cornwall, courtesy of Gold Top milk which is produced by a cooperative of 400 British Jersey and Guernsey farmers, and a tour of local restaurant Blue Plate. The five runners up also received exciting prizes including a cookery course and state-of-the-art hand mixers.
